We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data. We do not store tax records—only numerical data for informational and tracking purposes. You have full control over your data and can delete or manage it at any time through your Profile and Settings.

Built for clarity. Powered by AI. Designed for independence.

12. Professional Marketplace

TaxApp operates a Professional Marketplace ("Marketplace") that allows users to discover, connect with, and engage independent tax professionals, firms, and advisors. The Marketplace includes professionals such as CPAs, Enrolled Agents (EAs), Tax Attorneys, Bookkeepers, Financial Advisors, and other vetted service providers.

How the Marketplace Works

  • Discovery: Browse or search for professionals by specialty, location, credentials, and availability.
  • AI Matching: Our AI-powered matching engine suggests professionals based on your tax profile, needs, and preferences.
  • Connection Requests: You may send a connection request to a professional of your choice. The professional may accept or decline the request.
  • Communication: Once connected, you and the professional can communicate through TaxApp's secure messaging system.
  • Engagement: You may request services such as consultations, document reviews, full tax preparation, or audit assistance.

Important Disclaimer: TaxApp is not a party to any engagement between you and a tax professional. We provide the platform for discovery and connection, but the professional relationship, including scope of services, fees, timelines, and deliverables, is established directly between you and the professional. TaxApp does not guarantee the quality, accuracy, or timeliness of any professional's services.

Professional Vetting: TaxApp verifies certain credentials of professionals listed on the Marketplace, including:

  • Valid PTIN (Preparer Tax Identification Number) for tax preparers
  • Professional licenses (CPA, EA, Attorney) through state regulatory bodies
  • Business verification and professional liability insurance (where applicable)
  • Background and disciplinary history screening

However, verification does not constitute an endorsement or guarantee of a professional's competence or performance. You are encouraged to independently evaluate any professional before engaging their services.

13. Professional Connections & Responsibilities

When you connect with a tax professional through the Marketplace, a Client–Professional Relationship is established. Both parties have specific rights and responsibilities:

Your Responsibilities as a Client:

  • Provide accurate, complete, and truthful financial information to the professional
  • Respond to the professional's requests for documents and information in a timely manner
  • Review all prepared returns and documents before signing or submitting them
  • Understand that you are ultimately responsible for the accuracy of your tax return, even if prepared by a professional
  • Pay all agreed-upon fees directly to the professional as per your engagement terms
  • Communicate changes in your financial situation that may affect your tax return
  • Maintain copies of all documents and correspondence related to your engagement

Professional's Responsibilities:

  • Maintain valid licenses and credentials in good standing
  • Adhere to IRS Circular 230 and all applicable professional standards
  • Exercise due diligence in preparing your tax return
  • Maintain client confidentiality per applicable law and professional ethics
  • Disclose any conflicts of interest
  • Provide clear communication regarding fees, scope, and timelines
  • File extensions and returns on time when engaged to do so

Data Sharing: When you connect with a professional, you may choose to share specific sections of your Tax Center data (income, expenses, deductions, etc.) for the selected tax year. You control what is shared and can revoke access at any time. Shared data is limited to what you explicitly authorize. Sensitive information such as Social Security Numbers is never transmitted through TaxApp—you will share such information directly with your professional through their secure platform.

Engagement Disputes: Any disputes arising from the professional engagement (including service quality, fees, or outcomes) must be resolved directly between you and the professional. TaxApp may, at its discretion, facilitate communication but is not a mediator or arbitrator. If a professional violates TaxApp's platform policies, we may take action including suspension or removal from the Marketplace.

Termination of Connection: Either party may terminate the professional relationship at any time. Upon termination, the professional's access to your shared data will be revoked. However, the professional may retain copies of your tax return and supporting documents as required by IRS recordkeeping rules (generally 3–7 years). You remain responsible for any fees owed for services already rendered.

14. Platform Fees & Professional Commissions

TaxApp generates revenue through user subscriptions and professional marketplace fees:

  • User Subscriptions: Users may subscribe to TaxApp for premium features, calculators, and AI tools. Subscription pricing is displayed at the time of purchase.
  • Professional Subscriptions: Tax professionals and firms pay a subscription fee to be listed on the Marketplace and access client management tools.
  • Service Request Commissions: When a user engages a professional for a paid service through a TaxApp service request, TaxApp retains a platform commission (typically 25%) from the service fee. The professional receives the remaining amount.
  • Payment Processing: All payments for service requests are processed through TaxApp's payment system. Direct off-platform payments between users and professionals to bypass commissions are prohibited.

Refund Policy for Services: Refunds for professional services are governed by the engagement terms between you and the professional. TaxApp subscription fees are refundable within 30 days of purchase. Service request payments held in escrow may be refunded if the professional fails to deliver, subject to dispute review.

15. Professional Conduct & Marketplace Integrity

To maintain a trusted marketplace, all participants must adhere to the following standards:

Prohibited Conduct:

  • Misrepresentation of credentials, experience, or licensing status
  • Soliciting off-platform payments to bypass platform commissions
  • Harassment, discrimination, or unprofessional communication
  • Sharing or requesting Social Security Numbers or other highly sensitive data through TaxApp messaging
  • Filing tax returns without the client's review and explicit consent
  • Creating fraudulent or misleading reviews or ratings
  • Using the platform to solicit clients for unrelated or unauthorized services

Reviews & Ratings: After completing an engagement, clients may rate and review their professional. Reviews must be honest and based on actual experiences. TaxApp reserves the right to remove reviews that are fraudulent, abusive, or violate our policies. Professionals may respond to reviews but may not offer incentives in exchange for positive ratings.

Enforcement: Violations of these standards may result in warnings, suspension, or permanent removal from the Marketplace. Serious violations may be reported to relevant licensing authorities. TaxApp reserves the right to suspend or remove any professional or user account at its sole discretion to protect the integrity of the platform.
